Product Description
This jig has been designed to assist in bending up safety handrails for NSWGR single lower quadrant signals as well as left and right bracket signals.
It has been designed for the use of 0.015 inch (15 thou.) brass or phosphor bronze wire. Brass wire is prefered rather than phosphor bronze wire which is a bit springy. If you can find it, a source of brass wire is picture hanging wire which is usually about 5 strands that can be unravelled. To straighten the brass wire, clamp one end in a vise and use a pair of pliers to hold the other end; pull until the wire stretches straight.
The single signal handrail is round ended above the ladder and the two sides are mounted on the post approximately 30 inches above the small platform.
If handrails are made for a White Strong and Flexible signal then the existing printed handrails can be cut away and 0.45mm or 0.5mm holes drilled in the same locations to accomodate the new handrails.
Fine Detail Frosted Ultra Detail signals will have the holes already printed in place, these need to be cleared with a 0.4mm drill.
Brass signals may have the holes printed through but if not then the marked holes will have to be drilled with a 0.4mm drill.
Mount the handrail first then thread the vertical posts into the platform holes, solder the vertical posts to the handrail and then glue the handrail to the signsl post and vertical posts to the platform with ACC (Super Glue).
Of course for brass signals the handrail and vertical posts can be soldered to the post/platform.

Further detail can be added to the White Strong and Flexible signals by replacing the existing printed ladder with a Frosted Ultra Detail fine detail ladder from the Signals Branch shop.
