Product Description
The MV Kooleen AKA "The Ugly Kooleen" and "The Submarine" was an inner-harbour Sydney Ferry that operated between 1956 and 1985. Her distinctive look and enclosed saloon complete with seating from ex Sydney trams was not popular with the travelling public but she was efficient and was one of the few ferries that could consistently stick to her timetable. Her bridge, which resembled that of a New York tug boat, gave the master full 360 degree views. Oddly she left Circular Quay of her own accord one day and on a gradual turn successfully made it beneath the Harbour Bridge with no master at the wheel before being pulled up incredibly without accident or injury. After her nearly 30 years of reliable service she was sold, used as a house boat on the Hawkesbury River and later in ill repair partially sank, was refloated and eventually broken up in 2006. Although considered "Ugly" indeed, the MV Kooleen still maintains a following amongst Sydney Harbour maritime historians. This model is 1 piece and requires other accessories available in The Ferry Models Shapeways shop i.e. railings and lafe rafts. Masts, flags and decals are not included. The model will be made available for sale shortly after a few more alterations are made to the design.
