VL8 (Vladimir Lenin, 8-axis; until 1963-N8-Novocherkassk) - Soviet main freight electric locomotive DC with an axial formula 2O+2O+2O+2O, produced from 1953 to 1967. Until 1961 (before the advent of VL10 and VL80) was the most powerful locomotive in the country. In the 1960s, along with the VL60 and TE3 was one of the main locomotives on the Soviet Railways. Was the technical basis of VL23.
