Product Description
When the Federation realized the need for even larger carriers that could employ two full squadrons, there was a great debate over how to do this. One school of thought (which eventually won out) was to design a new rear hull for the existing dreadnoughts, which would simplify production and allow the relatively easy conversion of existing ships if the need for more of these massive carriers presented itself. The more radical school of thought, led by Admiral Leonhard, proposed building an entirely new class of ship designed specifically as a heavy carrier. This ship would have used a nearly traditional saucer but would have carried the fighters in a long rear hull, which mounted two huge engines. (The design of the rear hull precluded mounting a third engine and required the creation of an entirely new warp engine class.) The fighters were carried in two long bays with extensive balconies, allowing a full strike to be launched quickly.

Sources are divided as to whether two ships of this class were built and counted as part of the DN-CVA total, or whether no ships of this class were completed. Keels were laid for two ships, that much is known. Various designs exist for this ship carrying 12 F-14s and 12 A-10s, or 12 F-14s and 12 F-18s, or 12 F-18s and 6 F-111s, or 12 F-14s and 6 A-20s.

This unpainted ship is designed to fit on a typical 5/8-inch hex map or to allow more room on a larger hex map. (If used for A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, simply change the measurements from inches to centimeters.)  The half-inch-wide, hex-shaped flight stand is built in.
