Today, we’re excited to announce a partnership with a company that makes it easy to be a part of the 3D printing revolution – Gravity Sketch. 3D modeling software has moved leaps and bounds over the past decade. The imagination really is the limit these days as we see more and more incredible products produced by our printers. However, there can still be a steep learning curve when it comes to familiarizing yourself with 3D modeling. Until now, that is. With just an iPad and an idea, millions of creations will be coming to life with Gravity Sketch.

Inspired by Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, the Gravity Sketch app offers a unique perspective on 3D creation that makes it easy, intuitive (and addictive!) for anyone to use. Their simple set of tools enables even beginners to create 3D shapes in just seconds. To help bring all these 3D shapes to life, the Gravity Sketch app is integrated with our API so users can easily get their creation uploaded to and printed by Shapeways.

Based in London, Gravity Sketch was founded by a group of graduates from the prestigious Royal College of Art. The founders’ mission is to help lower the barriers to 3D printing and help anyone get started with the technology through “direct 3D generation.” Using a virual plane, the app allows users to see their designs in real-time as they are “sketching.” This makes the process incredibly intuitive and interactive for users.

Whether you have been making for years, just getting started or are looking for a new educational tool Gravity Sketch is the app we’ve all been waiting for. With just an iPad and an idea, the possibilities are endless!

Pity it is just for the iPad which is a bit limiting for it’s use.
Very regrettable that it is only for the Ipad. A mistake. Very much hope that it comes available for PC (and thus also using this with a wacom graphic tablet) and for ANDROID. Especially because of using this app on the superb Galaxy Note (10.1 or 3-4-5) with its wacom S-Pen
Hope the omission will be soon corrected by Gravity.
sounds fun but i doint own an ipad so cant use it to try

I’ll try it tomorrow…

What? No Android love?
Great app! Worth a try, pretty cool and easy to use. But don’t take my word for it.
I went to the app store and typed Gravity Sketch into the search box and “no results found”.
How do I find this app at the app store?
This is what happens all the time! Yeah we have something new! Something for EVERYBODY to endorse 3D Printing! YEAH RIGHT! ONLY APPLE USERS!!! Did the app creator really thought that EVERYBODY is using Apple?! I’m not even going to try it, even when they think on releasing an update!
Such a waste!
Regards,
Dennis.
A real designer wel never use an application like that!
Aw, folks they gotta start somewhere. It is still in Beta. I’m sure they will spread the love around once the kinks are worked out.
So basically it’s a 3D modelling program that has a bunch of preset objects you can pick from that have parameters that can be changed with simple touch controls. I watched one of the sample creation videos on the app’s website and it seems cleverly designed. The way they create the body of that sub is with one of the presets that creates a symmetric object about a centreline at the distance you specify with the touch controls. Too bad I don’t have an iPad either.
Bummer… iPad only 🙁
Will someone fax me when this becomes usable.
Yes, no Android love. Or PC love. I believe Apple makes deals with companies to have exclusive access to a company’s customers – at least for a short while. I have no wish to own an iPhone, and will hope for some sanity in the future. This app, if for different platforms (including PC) sounds like the perfect tool I need for freeform modeling.
Can you upload a 2D (3-View) Scale Drawing & develop it into a 3D Wire Frame Drawing ?
Why only the iPad. We don’t have one. We are Windows and Android based as are millions of other people. Too bad. Sounds like a great app for the ever growing tool collection.

ipad market share is trending down
building for ipads might be easier
but in the long term the future is android
in all its many and varied formats

Its a shame it is only for ipad, would be nice for android.
Aren’t there more Android tablets than Ipads at this point? Let me know when the rest of us can use this app.
Wish it worked on my Windows tablet or for Android.
There are so many good programs for PC’s already. I am so happy to get one for an iPad!!!
Now I can easily create at night when I don’t sleep lol
You should market 3D filament for all printers, that works in lost foam molds. That way models can be made out of solid metals just like GM used to make the Saturn car engine blocks. That way you could have tighter control over your metal models.
For Ipad only? it’s sounds monopolic. 🙁
And it is free! I’m downloading it now. It looks like fun!
For those who may not know, writing an application for the iPad is easier than writing for Android, mainly because iPad software only has to worry about a small number of screen sizes. It’s also extremely difficult to port an app between the two platforms because of their fundamental differences (Objective C or Swift vs. Java). Using a Wacom tablet (not to be confused with the other kind of tablets mentioned herein) is a different bird entirely.
Give them a break.
Joe, your point is true enough, it’s not easy.
However, the claim is, “for everyone”. So I am siding with the complainers.
Hi guys,
Daniela, Gravity Sketch co-founder here. We are glad you are having this conversation. When we say for everyone, we do mean it. Android and desktop versions are on our roadmap and we are working very hard to get them to you as soon as possible. We will keep you posted!
