Product Description
So you've bought the amazing Bandai Spirits Vehicle Kit 016. A stupendously massive super-spaceship, scaled down to 1:100,000 scale. Tiny, yet incredibly detailed.

But wouldn't the dark lord's mega-spaceship be even better if it were flanked by a bunch of wedge-shaped companion vessels? Well, that's what this is all about. A trio of star-destroying spacecraft.  I've included three because with Shapeways' pricing model, that works out the same as buying just one. Bargain! Note: this version cannot be easily lit - I have another version which can.

For those interested, these models are basically modelled after the Avenger ship/ISD 2 which appeared in ESB. They're not modelled after the Devastator ship/ISD 1 from ANH, partly because the cross-shaped bridge detail and the engine baffle thingies are hard to model at this tiny size.

What size should they be?

That's the big question, isn't it? What size are the ISDs relative to the SSD? Well, it's never 100% clear in the films - scale is always difficult to determine, especially when you're talking about a bunch of variously sized models, composited together optically.

There are two basic ideas as to how the ships should be measured.

Idea #1: bridge size.

The SSD has a bridge with the same basic details as the ISDs. So a common theory is that these two bridges are intended to be the same size.

Going by that, I've made these models! Each one scales out to a minuscule 17mm in length.

Idea #2:

Alternatively, a different approach is to measure the brass mini ship that was built alongside the original shooting model. This is the approach taken by a post on the franchise's official website. Going this way, these ships should scale out to about 12mm in length instead. So I've made 12mm ships as well.

Personally I prefer the 17mm approach, as you can get more printable details in there. 12mm limits detail options considerably, and makes stuff like the deflector generator domes even more vulnerable to damage. But it's up to you!

Also, if you want to be able to light up the spacecraft, that's another option I have made available. Awesome!

Minor update: September 2019. I increased the size of the post hole slightly, to accommodate 1mm brass tubes. 0.5mm tubes or rods are more expensive and really fragile. Of course, you can still use 0.5mm if you want - just use epoxy and hold the tube/rod in place while it sets.
