Product Description
North Staffordshire Railway 20 ton Goods Brake Van, diagram 20, built from 1890 onwards.
This is an accurate 2mm scale model based on details in GF Chadwick (1993) "North Staffordshire Wagons" ISBN 1 874103 15 1, photo of no 5421 built in 1913 and Craven Bros / Stoke Works GA drawing dated 1908. Most of these 20 ton brakevans lasted into LMS days post 1923.
The builder needs to add a plastic or brass roof. Thin wire is needed for handrails and the external handbrake (unlike the 4mm versions we have not provided the handle as it is too thin to print in this scale). Drill holes at dimples adjacent to the fixing brackets.
To build an underframe, position W-iron units at 10’ 0” wheelbase, fit NSR style oil axleboxes, long heavy springs, clasp brake gear, round base wagon buffers, and stepboards (all not incl).
Glazing may be best achieved using "glue and glaze" to create a transparent film in the apertures.
Thoroughly degrease all surfaces before painting. Livery: NSR = goods brown (suggest use GWR Indian Red). LMS = grey. Letters white.
For 3D modelling details for the 4mm scale versions of these brake vans please see the RMweb topic at: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64692-nsr-brakevan-in-4mm-scale-by-3d-printing/
Modelling the "Knotty"? see the NSR Study Group at: http://www.nsrsg.org.uk/
This model is to 2mm scale ( 1:152), if there is sufficient interest a version can also be made available in British N scale (1:148) but there is little discernible difference in a wagon of this size (so speaks one who models mostly in 4mm and 7mm scales!). It has been offered in response to a customer's request, we have not tried building one in this size ourselves. Please send us a photo of a completed model!
