Product Description
BR/LMS 12 ton Pallet Van - a  pair of body sides only - 7mm scale (1:43)

BR pallet van conversion of the LMS 12 ton ventilated van. There were three of these D2177 conversions from LMS vans originally built on lot 927, described in RJ Essery's "An Illustrated History of LMS Wagons Vol1" page 179. They make a very unusual 7mm scale model - see photographs attached and in the book for details and the BR grey livery.

You will receive two sides, they are supplied as a pair to keep printing costs down. You will need to provide corrugated ends, a matching set is available here on Shapeways (see links below) or alternatively a pair from a Freightman kit are a very good match (ideally the ones with 45degree edges not square; they were accurately produced in moulded plastic by Frank Titcombe but sadly no longer made). Please note the Parkside LMS van kit corrugated end is an earlier pattern and incorrect for this design.  You will need to provide the floor and roof from brass or plastic sheet, plus some internal reinforcement to make a rigid body. An underframe is easily put together from Parkside plastic components, available as spares or leftovers from other kits, or alternatively from the very fine ABS whitemetal castings (again sadly not available at the moment). Four torpedo vents will be needed from similar sources.  If you like building 7mm scale LMS kits you'll probably already know where to get the correct bits!

Separate the parts carefully with a razor saw or snips, then clean thoroughly to remove any release agent or support wax. An ultarasonic cleaner is recommended, but do not get the parts too hot or they may warp. Please spray with a filler primer if necessary and then paint thinly to preserve the detail.

This item is listed in two materials, please check the properties of each one before ordering; we are very confident of the excellent surface finish and structural strength of Smooth Fine Detail Plastic (aka "FUD") and Smoothest Fine Detail ("FED") would be even better. We have test printed in PA12 Grey and found it lacks detail around the stanchions so discontinued this material. We do not offer models in Versatile Plastic.

Ideal to use with our LMS corrugated van ends in 7mm scale, available with buffer stocks:
