Product Description
The rebellious underground complex on the frigid ice world from Episode V has a bunch of these ground lights in the hangar. They're in long parallel lines across the floor in a couple of locations. A few things of note.

1) They're lit from the inside, and transparent blue gels were used in certain areas. The four vertical openings on the back were ungelled, and were white. The front horizontal slots were all blue. These models are really tiny and hard to light, but can be lit with white SMD LEDs. I would recommend using transparent blue paint, such as Tamiya clear paint, to fill in the blue slots.

2) The lights are almost identical to props used in the temple set from Episode IV. Those lacked the three horizontal front slots, and had a red light on the top instead of blue.

3) There are no blueprints that I've seen describing the exact dimensions and shapes of the lights, so I've had to reconstruct them from screenshots of the movie and some behind the scenes photographs. I've similarly had to guess at their size. I can't guarantee they're 100% accurate, but they look reasonable to me.

4) Other replicas I've seen of these props have been, I believe, incorrect. The actual movie props appeared to have tapered long sides, so that they looked like trapezoids when viewed from the top or bottom. This isn't apparent in the film, but it's really obvious in some behind the scenes photos. Most people, however, have modelled the props with parallel long sides, so that they look like rectangles when viewed from the top or bottom.

This is the version of the light with tapered sides. But, because people are used to seeing the ground lights with incorrect parallel sides, I've also made a version like that. So you have the choice!

5) These ESB ground lights are very similar to the ground lights used on the temple set in Episode IV. Those lights were red, and lacked the three horizontal slots on the front. Fascinatingly, the temple ground lights (or exact replicas) were recycled as part of the evil lord meditation chamber and hologram room set in ESB. If you look on the wall you'll see the ground lights fastened there, pointing up. The set dressing team was nothing if not thrifty!

The parts are attached to a sprue to save costs, as Shapeways charge on a per-part basis. You'll need to snip the lights off the tree very carefully using a fine-tipped sprue cutter. Be careful - the model is tiny and easy to break!

Please read the following if you're interested in this item.

These accurizing parts are not mass-market commercial products. I made them for my own use, and have put them here in case they're of interest to someone else. Possibly you, since you’re reading this.

These are components for the serious model maker who wants to build a more accurate miniature. They require finishing. If you don't want to trim, file, sand, and glue, then these aren't the parts you're looking for!

The parts are tiny, and easily broken. They push the limits of today's 3D printers. The detail in the digital previews is all there, but it won't always be visible at the miniscule sizes that this scale requires!
