Product Description
BLING FOR THE SCIENCE FASHIONISTA OR A GALACTIC GIFT FOR YOUR ASTRONOMER.
Available in Ring Sizes 5 - 12

A Lorentzian Traversable Wormhole is a theoretical corridor that acts as a shortcut within space-time. Einstein’s theory of general relativity allows for this unusual mathematical solution. The wormhole can be visualized as a “throat” or tubular shortcut through a geometry (defined here as a lattice) representing folded space-time.

Wormholes often featured in science fiction serve as shortened passages across very far distances in space resulting in less travel time. Such traversable wormholes may be theoretically plausible, however because of their instability would require “exotic” matter (negative energy density and a larger negative pressure) in order to keep the wormhole’s throat stable enough for an object or information to pass through.

While proof has yet to be documented that wormholes exist in our universe these mathematical solutions can aid physicists in understanding the limits allowed in the theory of general relativity and may expand the knowledge of quantum gravity.

More interesting Wormhole facts:

The term “wormhole” was coined in 1957 by the theoretical physicist John Archibald Wheeler.

This analysis forces one to consider situations... where there is a net flux of lines of force, through what topologists would call "a handle" of the multiply-connected space, and what physicists might perhaps be excused for more vividly terming a “wormhole".

— John Wheeler, Annals of Physics

While the theory of general relativity may allow theoretical solutions under certain circumstances to convert wormholes into Time Machines, Stephen Hawking’s Chronology Protection Conjecture explains that the laws of physics would prevent the formation of such time machines.
