Product Description
Freightliner Container (non-ISO type) - replacement doors for Hornby 4mm scale model
A set of accurate replacement doors for the Hornby 20ft Freightliner container to create a more realistic appearance of the non-ISO type. These can be used on the 20ft type as made by Hornby, which represented the original Freightliner boxes before the types with ISO standard corner fittings were introduced (ISO containers had more substantial doors with four locking bars rather than two, and four hinges per door rather than three). The replacements doors can also be used on 10ft and 30ft non-ISO Freightliner containers which can be created by cutting-and-shutting Hornby 20fts. These replacement doors obviously don't open like the crude Hornby ones, but they are printed as thinly as possible (~1mm)  to avoid making the resulting model over-length. A small amount can be filed or milled off the door end if desired, or even off the non-door end, if it is essential to preserve absolute 20ft length. They are a snug fit into the end of the Hornby container.

The doors may appear expensive per unit but of course not every container on your model needs them, only those with the doors facing outwards on a container flat, many of the doors will not be seen and the detail can be omitted. There are no sprues to remove but the doors will require fitting and painting, as part of an upgrade or alteration of a Hornby container. The vertical door bars are printed but attached to the door behind by a thin, imperceptible strip so they will not distort or break and should be durable in normal handling. Before use, clean thoroughly to remove any release agent or support wax. An ultarasonic cleaner is recommended, but do not get the doors too hot or they may warp. Please paint thinly to preserve the detail.

This item is listed in only one material: we are very confident of the excellent surface finish and structural strength of Smooth Fine Detail Plastic (aka "FUD"). We do not offer models in PA12 Grey nor Versatile Plastic because, while good for many model applications, they do not lead to the level of detail possible with this design.

With thanks to Jonny Duffett ("IronMink") for inspiration of the original design and his range of free stl downloads of various Freightliner boxes on Thingiverse.
