Product Description
The hidden rebellious temple complex on the fourth moon of a gas planet in Episode IV, has a bunch of these ground lights in the hangar. They're scattered in various places around the fighter spacecraft.

The lights are scaled to match
1:72 model ships. A few things of note.

1) They're lit from the inside, and transparent red gels were used in certain areas. The four vertical openings on the back were ungelled, and were white. The top horizontal slots were red. These models are really tiny and hard to light, but can be lit with white SMD LEDs. I would recommend using transparent red paint, such as the Tamiya paint, to fill in the red slots.

2) The lights are almost identical to props used in the ice cave set from ESB. Those had an additional three horizontal front slots, and had blue lights instead of red. I have a version of those lights available.

3) There are no blueprints that I've seen describing the exact dimensions and shapes of the lights, so I've had to reconstruct them from screenshots of the movie and some behind the scenes photographs. I've similarly had to guess at their size. I can't guarantee they're 100% accurate, but they look reasonable to me.

4) Other replicas I've seen of these props have been, I believe, incorrect. The actual movie props appeared to have tapered long sides, so that they looked like trapezoids when viewed from the top or bottom. This is particularly obvious in the scene where a golden robot bids farewell to
Artoo as our hero prepares to fly out of the hangar. Most people, however, have modelled the props with parallel long sides, so that they look like rectangles when viewed from the top or bottom.

5) Fascinatingly, the Yavin ground lights (or exact replicas) were recycled as part of the evil lord meditation chamber and hologram room set in ESB. If you look on the wall you'll see the ground lights fastened there, pointing up. The set dressing team was nothing if not thrifty!

The parts are attached to a sprue to save costs, as Shapeways charge on a per-part basis. You'll need to snip the lights off the tree very carefully using a fine-tipped sprue cutter. Be careful - the model is tiny and easy to break!

Please read the following if you're interested in this item.

These accurizing parts are not mass-market commercial products. I made them for my own use, and have put them here in case they're of interest to someone else. Possibly you, since you’re reading this.

These are components for the serious model maker who wants to build a more accurate miniature. They require finishing. If you don't want to trim, file, sand, and glue, then these aren't the parts you're looking for!

The parts are tiny, and easily broken. They push the limits of today's 3D printers. The detail in the digital previews is all there, but it won't always be visible at the miniscule sizes that this scale requires!
