Community Members at the Forefront of Singapore’s 3D Printing Revolution

One of the most humbling and inspiring things about our community is that it’s truly global. Online, yes, but also offline, with community members leading Meetup groups on four continents. In Singapore, Shapeways Collective member and local Shapeways Meetup organizer Hanyang Leong of Funbie Studios has been an incredible ambassador for 3D printing as the city becomes an additive manufacturing hub. Last weekend, Leong led a group of four community members in sharing their work at Maker Faire Singapore, embodying the mission of Shapeways Collective: to bring our global community members together on a local level.

And they did us proud, from the Beeing Human dress by Jamela and Lionel Wong to the clever, useful work of Fauzan Baharudin, a designer who traveled from Malaysia to take part. Designer Soon Ping Mong of Tinkerwerx‘s creations were showstoppers, drawing lots of attention from Faire-goers.

Hanyang Leong was more than just a rep for the Shapeways community at Maker Faire Singapore — he is a veteran participant in the event, and was asked to help curate the 3D printing section of the Faire. 3D Printing Hub Asia and Singapore University of Technology and Design were part of the show, joining Shapeways community members in the exhibition hall.

We’re always in awe of our Shapeways Collective members and the work they do to share their love of 3D printing with the larger community, and we’re super excited to see Singapore’s growth as a center for 3D printing innovation. Stay tuned for more stories from our far-flung Collective members!
