This puzzle is a Square-1 variant in which there are twice as many edges as before, and there are also 4 layers instead of 3. Because two edge pieces equal the same angle as one corner piece, the geometry of the puzzle is similar to an octagon. It also has a second axis for slicing, and because of this, the puzzle can also shapeshift into a 2x2 which can randomly bandage depending on the previous moves. This allows the puzzle to scramble in many, many more ways than the original version. This puzzle is sold as a DIY kit directly from Shapeways.
