Product Description
The ancestor of the tank as we know it is the war wagon, which was traditionally a horse-drawn cart constructed of thick timbers and lined with copper. Soldiers would fire heavy-calibre weapons such as blunderbusses through small gunports in the sides. War wagons were seldom seen outside of Prussia, though one might consider the Russian tachanka to be similar in concept. This model takes the concept to the next level, replacing vulnerable horses with an engine, and the wooden construction with steel. The vehicle itself has no weapons, but eight gunports instead for soldiers to fire machine guns, small-calibre cannons (e.g. 20mm), and/or sniper rifles. The self-propelled war wagon is very light for an armoured vehicle, and cannot protect the crew from anything other than anti-personnel weapons, but it is cheap to produce, easy to operate in the field, and very mobile. Soldiers nicknamed the vehicle the "little box turtle," as a reference to the much larger and more powerful "Iron Turtle," which it served alongside.
