Product Description
This is a reproduction 3D printed idler gear. It is a small gear about the size of a pencil eraser, it drives the idler tire to operate the take up reel in the cassette deck. It has a tendency to crack and then loses it's tension on the shaft of the pully that drives it.
This gear is available in PA-12 nylon and [Fine Detail Plastic]. PA-12 is has a rougher textured finish but is stronger. Fine detail plastic has a better finish. Both versions are considered strong but the fine detail plastic version is more brittle so care should be exercised when installing to not force it onto the metal spindle shaft. We recommend PA-12 instead. The center hole should be snug fit and is modeled and sized to work as-is. However, as 3D printing is not an exact process and there is some tolerance to the printing process, it often results in a less than perfect fit with respects to "press-fit" snug on the shaft. We recommend: if not sufficiently snug, secure it with a drop of superglue with the aid of activator. If the fit is too tight, you may need to ream out the hole with an appropriate sized micro-drill bit. The original shaft is 2mm, but slight undersized is desired unless you plan to apply adhesive.
Tested to fit the following boomboxes:
GE Blockbuster (3-5259A)
GE 3-5258A
Realistic SCR-8 (14-778)
May fit others, we only tested on these
