Product Description
The lembus (also called a lembo) is a type of Illyrian ship best known for its use by pirates. After the problem of piracy in the Mediterranean was all but eradicated by the Romans, a larger version of the lembus was eventually adopted into the Roman Navy. Both versions are characterised by their single bank of oars and no masts to speak of. They are slow, especially over long distances, but are very nimble and hard to hit with larger projectiles from scorpions or catapults, and can also avoid the rams of larger ships quite easily. Lembi would be akin to longboats or launches in later periods, though larger Roman warships are not known to have carried lembi on their decks. This sprue of 25 small lembi is meant to be used with Avalon Hill's Trireme board game, and is not specific to any faction.
