Product Description
The New Haven Railroad ordered its Alco HH-660s with a compressor cover that was larger and had a slope instead of the standard rectangular compressor cover. This part replaces the rectangular compressor cover that comes with the Atlas HH-660 HO model. It can be mounted to the shell using the same circular mounting holes.
The louvers are not part of the printed parts. The 14" louvers can be found in the Archer HO Louver Assortment, part AR88056. The upper louver is made using four louvers. The bottom is eight louvers.
This kit was designed to be printed as a three piece flat kit with all the visible surfaces of the parts oriented to maximize the detail during the 3D printing process. Shapeways Smoothest Fine Detail Plastic material should be specified for best results.
The parts should be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner with some Simple Green added to warm water. This is to remove any waxy support material that could interfere with the assembly of the kit.
Once cleaned the parts can be assembled using CA. After assembly the parts can be primed.
The parts have some striations on what should be smooth surfaces due to the current limitations of Shapeways 3D printing. The parts can be primed with a primer containing fillers like Mr. Primer Surfacer 1000 or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer to make the surfaces smoother. Multiple thin coats are best.
After priming, the louvers can be cut from the Archer sheet and applied like decals. You may also need to expand the railing mounting hole by drilling with a #77 drill bit.
As always, if you have any questions I may be contacted through the Shapeways site, the NHRHTA forum or by email to mlredden1 (at) gmail (dot) com.
