When the New Haven Railroad rebuilt their Alco DL-109 locomotives winterization hatches were installed to cover the roof fans. The S scale DL-109 has the roof fans, but no hatches.
This is the latest version of the winterization hatches. They do not require the removal of the fans. The hatch louvers are see-through so the fans are visible through the hatches.
