When it was decided to show the Enterprise-C in the TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise", a studio model had to be built. Andrew Proberts original design (which silhouette was used on the "Ship Wall" in the Enterprise-D's conference room), was deemed to have too complicated shapes to be build as a physical model within the budget limitations. So the design was simplified a little. This first studio model was solely used to depict the Enterprise-C in this episode. For the later appearances of Ambassador Class ships (USS Zuhkov, USS Excalibur and USS Yamaguchi), a second model was used. The two miniatures were not exactly identical. They show a lot of significant differences. There is a good article about these Ambassador Variants at ex-astris-scientia.org. This miniature tries to replicate the look of the model used for the Enterprise- C in "Yesterday's Enterprise".
There are two somewhat official size figures out there. 526m and 478.5m, you can read about this at memory-alpha. Eaglemoss seems to try to offer a compromise, stating 520m in the magazine that comes with the miniature. Personally i like the 526m figure, as it is more close to the 524.256m of Andrew Probert's original design, and it fits perfectly to the relative sizes of the parts taken from the Ambassador and Galaxy Class to create the Niagara Class.
