Last year we told you about our official partnership with Future Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Made in Space on a series of challenges developed with NASA. Today, we want to remind you that the deadline for the second challenge is quickly approaching. These challenges provide amazing opportunities for students who love design, 3D printing and space!
Future Engineers is a platform that hosts and develops educational design challenges for young innovators. We are so honored to have a part in empowering young designers to create real, usable tools that will help so many people. As part of an effort to encourage more students to learn about design, 3D printing and space this initiative enables K-12 students to design tools that can be 3D printed in space, and is focused on solving real-world space exploration problems. For this challenge, students are tasked with creating a digital 3D model of a container that can be printed and used by astronauts.
Students have until August 2nd to get their designs submitted, semifinalists and finalists will be announced in September and winners crowned in October. More details on the timeline can be found below:
We are providing $50 printing credit to the top 10 semifinalists in both groups (Junior and Teen) and the winners get some pretty exciting prizes, so be sure to remind the young 3D printing enthusiasts in your life about this fun challenge!
Check out full details for the challenge here.
I am an older individual who has left teaching to follow my creative passion. I love 3D design and have had my first 3D print done by you guys earlier this year. I would love an opportunity to design for competitions or expo’s. So why don’t you have competitions for older creatives such as myself?
Hey Kay,
welcome to the Shapeways community!
We try to run competitions regularly and I hope you’ll participate. Right now I cannot think of a good way to make a separate contest for people of a certain age but if you have some ideas we’d be happy to try them.
