Product Description
The Lyrans are human-sized cats that bore a distinct similarity to Terran lynxes in both appearance and temperament. Bitter enemies of the Kzintis (tigermen eight feet tall), the Lyrans were staunch allies of the Klingons and enemies of the Hydrans as well. Like Kzintis, Lyrans were carnivores known to eat their captives on rare occasions. The Federation assigned each Lyran ship-type a “reporting name” to keep them separate. Lyrans were organized as a feudal society. Twenty-one counties each had a squadron of ships lead by a heavy cruiser; four dukes had dreadnoughts to lead the four fleets, while the king-emperor commanded from the capital.

The Lyrans, like other empires, built “carrier pallets (pods)” that could turn a cruiser-sized tug into a carrier with a squadron of 12 fighters. This was supposed to be for limited emergency use as the tugs had too many things to do to allow permanent conversion. There were always Lyran admirals who wanted to replace cruiser production with tugs for use as battle or carrier tugs since this would increase the number of carriers in service, but the tugs were too valuable doing construction tasks and a carrier tug was equal to a real carrier in combat only if you didn't pay too much attention. The pallet is not capable of independent operations but must be attached to a tug to operate its fighters. Because of the configuration, a carrier pallet could only be carried by a light tactical transport as inactive cargo. While a carrier pod could be carried by a Puma-class transport tug, this would produce a less effective warship because the tug itself has fewer weapons.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
