This is the small Scout Ship that sits on the back of a Negh'Var Class Cruiser. Rick Sternbach, who designed the Negh'Var, added detachable auxiliary or "daughter crafts" to many of his designs. Most prominently Voyager's Aerowing and the Waverider of the Nova Class. Lesser know examples are the bridge module of the Cardassian Galor/Keldon Class cruisers that can detach (they have their own impulse drive at the back). He also envisioned the front module of the Vor'cha to be an interchangeable module that can also be used as a "Lifeboat" to keep up the fight, even when the main ship is destroyed. FASA suggested something similar for the original D7 Cruisers, where the Bridge section and the boom can be jettisoned from the main hull. This ship should serve a similar purpose. This "tradition" of detachable, auxiliary crafts was started by his college Andrew Probert, with the Galaxy Class' Captain's Yacht and the Drop Ship of the Ferengy D'Kora Class Marauder. It was also carried further by John Eaves with the Sovereign Captain's Yacht and the embedded craft of the Vulcan D'Kyr type. Unfortunately, with the sole exception of the Sovereign Captain's Yacht, we never saw those in action.
