In the DS9 episode "Far Beyond The Stars" Sisko had a vision of being a black science fiction author in the 1950's. In this episode there was a drawing shown depicting a fictional space station that strangely resembles one we all know. This model is roughly based on that drawing. At the listed scale It has about the same diameter and proportions as the "real" Deep Space Nine but it could also be any other size.
