Product Description
With the lackluster performance of the Z-1 assault fighter in the early days of the General War, the Klingons (still trying to make the mixed assault/superiority fighter squadron idea work) modified a Z-1 spaceframe into the Z-D. This fighter carried a single disruptor with enough energy to fire it twice. Due to weight limits, type-I drones were replaced by smaller type-VI anti-fighter drones for self-defense. (The tiny warhead couldn't do much damage to a ship.) By the time the Zerdon entered service, carrier admirals had decided that the mixed squadrons were not workable and standard carriers switched to pure Z-2 or Z-V fighters, although the heavy C8V carriers often had six Z-Ds on board for attacks on ships and hard targets.
This comb of fighters is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
