In collaboration with
Warship Projects, we present you the Adm. King and Nimitz CIP (class improvement plan) version suggested for BB-65 and 66, based on drawings from Mr Wayne Scarpaci's book. In general this design is to the original Iowa-class where the
Oregon City design is for the
Baltimore and
Fargo to the
Cleveland.
Changes compared to BB-61-64:
- addition of 6' bulges to improve torpedo protection (especially around Turret No.1); it also improved wave pattern reducing station keeping issues for destroyers when being re-fuelled side-by-side
- reduced topweight with no conning tower
- trunking of the funnels into one smoke pipe to further reduce topweight and clear sky arcs for AA guns
- rearranged secondary battery with two twin 5"/38 mounts moved to the centerline for'd and aft of the superstructure
