Product Description
Catalog of over 2500 products for scale modelers (click here).

Scale: 1/100

Includes 1 turret with separate barrels.  This model is also available in gray resin (click here).

This model represents the middle pair of 15 cm L/55 (5.9"/55 caliber) twin-gun turrets of the World War Two-era Deutsche Kriegsmarine battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz. These turrets were also intended to be installed aboard the proposed H-klasse super-battleships and proposed M-klasse cruisers. The turret is properly known as the SK C/28.

This version has integrated rangefinder armored hoods.  Turrets without the rangefinder and hoods, also suitable for battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, are available separately.

Click here for a detailed description of these turrets.

Features:
  1. overall dimensions scaled from Krupp factory drawings.  Details and features match drawings published in Anatomy of the Ship: The Battleship Bismarck by Stefan Draminski
  2. details confirmed by careful study of photographs of one of Gneisenau's surviving turrets, removed from the ship and used as a part of a coastal fortification during World War Two
  3. separate barrels
  4. accurately sized and positioned bolthead, viewfinder and rangefinder port shutters and shell ejection port details

These parts are not 3D-printed copies of any plastic, wood, metal or resin model kit's parts.  They are original 3D designs based on factory drawings.

Notice: this model is available in economical "White Natural Versatile Plastic", a kind of nylon.  White Natural Versatile Plastic is waterproof and strong, a good choice for Radio Control models where durability is important.  When compared to "Fine Detail" acrylic plastic, sharp edges appear less defined and more rounded when printed.  Being nylon, "White Natural Versatile Plastic" is generally not sandable and fewer types of paint and glue will adhere to it.  Care is recommended in choosing a paint that will adhere to, and fully cure upon, nylon.  Google "glue for nylon", "paint for nylon" and "primer for nylon" to find several good choices.

Customers report that "White Natural Versatile Plastic", when compared to "Smooth Fine Detail" acrylic plastic, will have noticeable striations (print lines).  To help smooth "White Natural Versatile Plastic" surfaces, apply thin layers of primer meant specifically for nylon.  Allow the primer to harden. Then smooth the hardened primer.

Because of nylon's characteristics, White Natural Versatile Plastic is generally unsuitable for static display models.  "Smooth Fine Detail" acrylic plastic is recommended for static display models where fine detail, sharp edges, and smooth surfaces are required.
