Product Description
The Acme Signal was used in Los Angeles and a handfull of other cities through the mid 1950s. The distinctive semaphore arms are an unmistakable feature of the signal.
To see an unrestored operating version, seach youtube for "unrestored acme traffic signal".
This kit is designed to equip a couple intersections with signals. I've designed them such that they should be mounted on a 3/32 brass tube, with a .040 rod at the arm pivot, and a .010 piano wire to actuate the arms if desired. Bend a 90 degree elbow into the last mm of your piano wire and insert into the .010 hole in the arm. Note that there are two different arms. To keep the piano wire from fouling the adjacent arm I used a tiny piece of styrene between the two arms like a washer. There are holes to pass a pico size red and green LED on both sides. Use a drop of glue to form a lens over it. I successfully created a working prototype using a micro servo and arduino board. A video of the working prototype is linked here.
Please note that the finials on top of the signals are extremely delicate and will not survive rough handling. Basic static installation can be done by almost anyone. Only a very experienced modeler should attempt automating this signal. Contact me for more tips on automating this model.
