One of the most active worlds of the solar system, with over 400 active volcanoes, It's colourful surface is a painting of sulphuric and silicate lava flows tens of even hundreds of kilometres long.
All too often, volcanic explosion eject material up to 200km into space, producing large umbrella-shaped plumes that slowly rain back unto the moon's surface colouring it red black and white.
The moon's surface changes so fast, that a true Io globe becomes almost a meaningless concept since in only a few decades it becomes inaccurate. Instead this globe represents a mere snapshot in time, largely based on the observations of the Galileo spacecraft.
