1-Pair OR&L Passenger Car Trucks, On3

The Oahu Railway cloned their Carter Brothers passenger cars, producing many beefed up copies. For their pedestal copies, they eliminated the "CARTER BRO'S" "SF" "18XX" marks. They eliminated the "C" "B" "S" "F" from their journal lids as well. These trucks are based on the same 1895 drawing as the Carter Trucks, but with the modifications observed under surviving the cars at Travel Town (LA) and Hawaiian Railway Society (just west of Pearl Harbor). As with the Carter Passenger Car Trucks, these are designed to accept 24" wheelsets on 1.165" long axles. These are offered in On3 and On30 by NWSL (turned metal) and Foothill Model Works (beautifully detailed plastic). I recommend thoroughly cleaning the parts, then removing the sprues with a jeweler's saw. I drill out the journals to be ensure that they are super free rolling. The wheels need to be installed in the journals BEFORE installing the journals in the pedestals (should slide up and down freely after cleaning). The modeler may leave them loose (as I do), glue them in place, or drill out and install springs above them. I'd originally created these as sprung trucks, but the additional hassle to the modeler and difficulty in finding springs which looked and performed well has caused me to make them rigid.
