When the Enterprise-D encountered a pregnant member of this space-dwelling lifeform in TNG: "Galaxy's Child", the crew were forced to kill the mother in self-defence. The young creature was still alive, and the Enterprise used its phasers to cut it out. The now nicknamed "Junior" then assumed the Enterprise its mother and attached itself to the Enterprises neck, feeding energy. The Enterprise then delivered "Junior" to an asteroid field, where three adult members of this species took the child. The size is a very rough estimate of the size of "Junior" against the Enterprise and against an adult.
