The USS Galen NX-86350 is featured in some Voyager novels as one of the ships that returned to the Delta Quadrant along with the USS Voyager (Project Full Circle Fleet). The ship is described as: "A cross between a Nova- and a Miranda-class starship. The main section had six decks. It was constructed in a wide triangular shape and the nacelles were mounted on short pylons extending directly from the drive section." On the cover of the novel "To Lose the Earth", the ship is depicted as a Nova Class with the nacelles turned upside down and mounted directly under the saucer section. Well, this contradicts the description about the short pylons, and if the ship does have the same secondary hull as the Nova, then why to relocate the nacelles in the first place. The back of the ship can not be seen as it is obscured by some sort of nebula or cloud. The cover-artist for the German edition also used a Nova Class saucer and placed the nacelles underneath it but kept them the same orientation as on the Nova. The angle the ship is depicted doesn't allow to see the back either but if it were a standard Nova Class hull we should be able to see the shuttlebay, which we don't. I therefore tried to keep as much from both depictions as possible, using a Nova Class with a shortened secondary hull. On the German cover we also see a little of the nacelle pylon, but its actual shape is hard to determine, and it connects with the nacelles in a strange spot. I therefore made my own, with the original Nova Class pylons as a starting point. All in all i'm not too happy with the ship, because this is supposed to be a newly developed design with a quantum slipstream drive, meant to replace the Olympic Class medical ships. When you design a ship for a new type of drive, then why use older components that were not meant for that kind of technology? Shouldn't a ship like that not look more like Arturis's (fake) USS Dauntless or the Vesta Class that was actually constructed by Starfleet for the Quantum Slipstream drive? For that, there is another, fan-designed Galen Class variant in my shop, that in my opinion fits this ship much better.
