Product Description
For Modelsvit 1/144 scale Permit/Thresher kit #s 1401 and 1402. This is the original 5-blade "speed" prop that the Thresher went to sea with on commisioning. This would eventually be replaced by the 7-blade J-type screw that came about after the blade rate sonar issue was discovered during Skipjack trails in the late 1950s.
I have options to print these parts in brass, I'm uncertain at the moment if they'll pass the human scrutiny, though they pass the automated scrutiny. But the only way to asses that will be when someone orders it in that material and it then moves forward in the process. Recently Shapeways has been ultra-problematic regarding their pre-printing human scrutiny of new items. I always try and work with them to correct these issues, but its always difficult nailing down with them what the root cause issue really is. For instance, they'll point out a section thickness issue that has never caused a problem in the past and that they have sucessfully printed before. Well after a back and forth, what I've found out is that 99% of their probelm isn't that the part is thin and that their machine can't print it (it can), the issue is when they are handling it post-processing and their technicians tend to break the parts. So I try and cage anything that looks like it might cause a problem and they tend to accept that. But, theres always this dance.
