Product Description
When fighters appeared in the Star Fleet Universe, the Federation converted several ship designs to carry them. The most successful of these were the Strike Carriers of the Nimitz class, based on the heavy cruisers of the Constellation class. Indeed, the Nimitz herself was converted from an existing heavy cruiser, as were Farragut and Raeder. The saucer and engines were identical to the cruiser; the only changes were in the rear hull which was redesigned to include a flight deck on the main deck level. This was a “tunnel deck” with doors at the front and back, allowing the ship to launch and land fighters at the same time. The Strike Carriers used a squadron of 12 F-18 fighters. (Nimitz carried F-8s and Farragut carried F-4s for a few months until F-18s became available.) Nelson, Houston, and Gorshkov carried F-15s and were slightly different internally. Each Strike Carrier carried a multi-role shuttle and an E-2 electronic warfare shuttle.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
