This is a 3-nacelled variant of the Decatur/Belknap Class. Like the Decatur Class, a depiction of such a ship appeared in the "Who's Who in Star Trek", Issue 2 comic book. Labeled as Dreadnought Class there. Well, in the Star Trek universe, a Dreadnought is rather a type of ship, like a Cruiser or an Explorer. This classification is also often associated with ships with 3 nacelles, and this ship and the Federation Class from the "Starfleet Technical Manual" might be the reason for this. But this makes no sense. A Dreadnought is usually a very well armed and armored vessel, much stronger than most other ships in the fleet. Why should a ship that is considered a Heavy Cruiser at best suddenly become a Dreadnought by adding a 3rd nacelle? So not all Dreadnought's need to have 3 nacelles and not all 3-nacelled ships are Dreadnoughts. Personally i don't like ships with odd numbered amounts of nacelles very much, but here i have to admit it makes this ship look more balanced. Because of the naming conflict, i rather use the name Ascension Class that comes from non-licenced work. The entry on Memory Beta seems to list the ship with the length of the Federation Refit Class that is also depicted in this comic. This model is the same size as my Decatur/Belknap Class, based on the size of the Constitution parts.
