The Altair Class appeared in the "Ships of the Line 2007" calendar. Originally, the design was a proposal for the USS Voyager that was rejected. Later, it was used as the secondary hull of an alternate version of the Enterprise-J that was also not used in the end (Congo Class).
Well, the "official" story behind this ship is somewhat muddled. The small USS Altair (323m) was a 24th century prototype, the only ship of the type up until the 26th century when Starfleet built it as the Cestus Class frigate. The Universe Class (Enterprise-J) mimics the shape of the nacelles and the combination of a Universe Class saucer and an upsized version of the Altair (now over 2000m!!!) forms the Congo Class. What the heck? This almost sounds as if this was written by the writing staff of "Star Trek: Discovery"!?!
