By popular demand: An ancient Egyptian heart amulet. (And although this true to type amulet is based on my own carefully drawn schematics, I will confess that I decided to outsource the modelling itself so that it would be everything I wanted it to be. In the process, I ended up hiring an Egyptian, which felt very apropos. Many thanks Muhammad!)

In his research on the typology and meaning of heart amulets, Rogério Sousa has explicated their significance as an amulet for the living and not just a marker of Osirian justification: "In all of [the contexts where heart amulets are seen] the heart is depicted as the seat of the mind and illustrates the responsibility of each man to keep the maetic order in motion. In fact, the innermost meaning of the heart amulet lies on its ability to symbolize the pure heart as an embodiment of the maetic order. As such, "illumination," wisdom, purity and renewal are all aspects of the heart filled by maet."
