Product Description
A dongle I made that attaches two Powerade bottles together to form a rudimentary solar still, for water purification. This works on any water, even salty ocean water!
Paint the bottom (dirty water) bottle black or cover with black duct tape, in order to absorb heat from the sun. Put the dirty untreated water in the bottom bottle. Screw adapter to powerade bottle with the tube pointing up and away. Then, take your clean water bottle and slide it over the tube as pictured, and screw it into place.
The interior of the tube is hollow, allowing water vapor to escape up the shaft from the heated lower bottle, up into the top bottle where it condenses against the cooler upper bottle back into water. Tube stops it from going back down into the bottom bottle (so long as the water level does not exceed the height of the tube). Just be careful to not contaminate your clean water with dirty water when separating the bottles.
On the upper powerade bottle, the majority of the condensate should drip from the outer ridge of protrusions on the bottom of the upper bottle, avoiding the center of the tube (and thus falling back into the dirty water bottle).
Just be careful of chemicals leeching in from the 3d printed plastic.
All you need for this to work is two Powerade bottles
