Built in 1883, the Rowan steam car (number 1) was the first rail car introduced to Victoria. The rail car was a combination steam engine, drivers cabin and passenger compartment to seat 42 people - See
VR N Scale Rowan Steam Car 1. When purchased, this rail car was supplied with a spare power unit (Kitson T70) which could be exchanged while the first was being repaired. In 1888, the Victorian Railways converted this second power unit into a second steam rail car capable of hauling a conventional passengar car or up to 35 tons of goods vehicles. This second steam rail car was named the Rowan steam car number 2 and operated primarily on the Outer Circle line.
This model has been designed to employ a Tsugawa Yokou TU-KOPPEL A mechanism and paired with a fixed-wheel class B carriage - See
