Product Description
The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants. The Maesron Alliance was one of the preeminent empires of the Omega Octant, at one point the largest empire before civil war, economic collapse, and foreign invasion reduced their territory to a small enclave. Maesron ships are armed with wide-angle phasers, tachyon guns, and tachyon missiles.

When the Maesron Alliance first learned of the existence of the Iridani Man-O-War battleship, its engineers and shipwrights considered whether or not they would be able to field a comparable battleship design of their own. However, whereas the "splendid isolation" of the Iridani Cluster had enabled the Iridani to simply curtail military operations in order to pay for their immense battleships, the Maesrons, faced with enemies on multiple fronts in the swiftly-escalating Second Great War, lacked such luxuries. As the Maesrons were incapable of building a single “peacetime construction” hull larger than a dreadnought, their attempt at a solution involved constructing two large superstructures, each with its own “floating” fire platform, with the intent of joining these superstructures together in order to produce a single battleship hull.

The completed ship, had it been fielded, would have been armed with 14 wide-angle phaser-1s, 10 wide-angle phaser-3s, 10 tachyon guns, four type-D tachyon missile racks (each with three tachyon missiles, plus a single set of reloads), four type-B tachyon missile racks (each with five tachyon missiles), and room for a “short squadron” of eight Maesron Advanced Fighters. It would have been slower than the Man-O-War in combat however, as its proposed pair of warp engines would have moved it no faster than Warp 2.7 at tactical warp speeds.

Alas, once the two superstructures were completed, the Maesron engineers were unable to connect them together and produce a stable warp field around the ship. Frustrated, the Maesrons scrapped the project, ironically only a few years before a fresh breakthrough in warp engine technology might have corrected this design flaw. Records are as yet unclear as to whether or not the Maesrons later drew up a stellar domination ship variant of this battleship design once “volatile warp” gunboats appeared in the subsequent Sixth Cycle.

This unpainted ship is designed to fit on a typical 5/8-inch hex map or to allow more room on a larger hex map. (If used for A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, simply change the measurements from inches to centimeters.)
