For the DS9 episode "Trials and Tribbel-ations", that took place during the events of TOS:"The Troubles with Tribbles", a new model of the Klingon D7 was built by Greg Jein to be inserted into the episode, representing Koloth's battlecruiser, which wasn't seen in the original episode. The model does have clearly the shape of a D7 and not that of K't'inga, and was verbally identified in the episode as a D7 as well. But Jein added a faint pattern of hull plating onto the model, very similar to that of the K't'inga. This would allow us to see this as an intermediate step between the two designs, which are very similar anyway. It is a matter of taste if you consider the K't'inga as a new type of ship, or just an excessive refit of older D7 hulls. Either way, this could represent the first refit towards the K't'inga, or the attempt to get the old D7 more close to the new design. For that, i named it D7 Refit, to distinguish it from the other two.
