1:24 Heywood Wagon Frame w/ Light Axleboxes

This model is a close representation of the early (2' x 4') cars used on the Duffield Bank Railway by Heywood. The Heywood style couplers are nominally functional (they are light and may uncouple on rough track). The four axleboxes and four coupler arms should be clipped off using flush-cutting side cutters and should have their mounting pins shortened to fit the holes in the frame (on the axleboxes) or removed (on the couplers). These holes are nominally 1mm in diameter and may need to be enlarged to fit the pins. The model is designed to use Hornby 12.5mm and 14.1mm wheelsets (the ideal size would be about 13.2mm). Most 26mm pointed axles or shouldered axles should work. The frame is hollowed out to allow lead pellets to be glued or epoxied into place to weight the frame. Alternatively a metal-bearing epoxy could be used as a filler to serve the same purpose. Both DBR and ER coupler arms are provided (although there is no evidence the ER used this size). The top should be constructed from scale 1.5" x 5.625" lumber with the perimeter angle iron constructed from scale 1.75" x 1.75" angle. In 1:24 this works out to 1/16" x 15/64" lumber and the angle can be closely approximated by Evergreen Styrene #292 0.080" Angle. The previous revision of this model has been printed in FUD and WSF. The FUD version is very nice to work with. The WSF version requires re-boring of all of the through-holes to fit the axleboxes and will likely not show up the details or functionality of the couplers well; it is offered due to demand for this material.
