Omni Scale Koligahr Gunboat Flotilla MGL

The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants. The Koligahr are a species of aquatic jellyfish-like invertebrates rimward of Maesron space. The Koligahr Solidarity was defeated in the First Great War by the Maesron Alliance, but later rose to superpower status due to the Maesron Civil War and Collapse. Koligahr ships are armed with microphasers, antimatter cloud generators, and antimatter cannons. The spherical hull sections of the ships are built underwater, and then launched into space to be assembled in orbit. This method of construction allowed the spheres to be built in bulk and combined into whatever type of ship was needed.

The Koligahr gunboat is smaller than that used by certain Omega Octant empires, such as the Maesrons, but is still an effective attrition unit. The “standard” gunboat is armed with two microphaser-1s, two mirophaser-3s, a single forward-oriented antimatter cannon, and an aft-facing antimatter cloud generator. On the one hand, the Koligahr were unable to install a second antimatter cannon, so often relied on the boat's phaser suite. On the other hand, the antimatter cloud generator had been installed almost as an afterthought, and was a frequent deletion on gunboat variants. Koligahr gunboats are deployed in flotillas of five, often with a leader but no scout. This tree of gunboats contains four standard, one leader, one scout, and two phaser gunboats.

The Koligahr gunboat leader was no better armed or shielded than the standard gunboat, but added a second auxiliary warp reactor to assist in arming its antimatter cannon. As with other Omega Octant empires, the Koligahr did not develop a gunboat scout until well over a decade after their first gunboats entered service. Replacing the antimatter cannon and antimatter cloud generator with a pair of special sensors, its small size and somewhat inadequate power (relative to other Omega gunboat scouts) somewhat minimized the potential support it could provide. Thus it was never a universally deployed variant.

A relatively straightforward conversion, the Koligahr phaser gunboat replaced the antimatter cannon and antimatter cloud generator with an additional pair of microphaser-1s. A number of phaser PFs may appear in a given flotilla, but the Koligahr stopped short of fielding “phaser flotillas” (or “phaser PF leaders”) of the kind commonly seen over in the Alpha Octant.

This tree of gunboats is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
