Product Description
This collection includes two SkyHawk-A Destroyers, a SkyHawk-F Scout, and a SkyHawk-L Destroyer Leader.

After the Treaty of Smarba provided the Romulans with Klingon warp technology and two dozen old Klingon warships for conversion, the Romulans set out to design a new series of ships to replace the ancient “Eagles” and the Klingon castoff “Kestrels.” With the General War on the horizon, the Romulans knew there was not time to build a completely new fleet, or even enough “Hawks” to supplement the existing “Eagles” and “Kestrels” so they had to get creative. Their solution was modular designs that would allow standard warships (such as this SkyHawk-A Destroyer) to be converted quickly into any needed mission-variant (scout, carrier, escort, commando, cargo, etc.). The “Hawks” included as many common elements as possible; the SkyHawk destroyer used two of the same engines that powered the SparrowHawk light cruiser and the FireHawk heavy cruiser (which used three and four respectively). This standard engine included a launch unit for the type-F plasma torpedo.

Like all war destroyer scouts, the SkyHawk-F was barely adequate for fleet combat. This ship cannot be used as a survey cruiser; it lacks the range and facilities for that duty. The Romulans built it in small numbers to replace earlier scouts lost in combat when there was not production capacity to build the more capable SparrowHawk scout. The only known name is Horsebow.

After the Klingon alliance gave the Romulans new technology, they built a huge class of modular destroyers, the SkyHawks. This is the SkyHawk-L Destroyer Leader variant, which packs extra firepower.  The ultimate member of the SkyHawk series, this ship pushed the design to (and beyond) the absolute limit. The boom section is entirely replaced with a new design having sufficient structural strength to mount a type-G plasma torpedo. The conversion to the design is a permanent one requiring a shipyard and considerable time. The ship loses its modular ability in the conversion due to the reinforcements for the boom extending through the open spaces where the modules would normally be installed.

This sprue of ships is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
