Product Description
The Klingons had taken to using D6D drone cruisers, intended for long-range bombardment, in front-line combat where their special sensors could support the fleet scout in winning the electronic warfare battle. This led to their being targeted, increasing their losses. One way to expand the heavy drone cruiser fleet in the face of combat losses was to convert a damaged D5W new heavy cruiser into the D5WD (also known as the DWD) new drone bombardment cruiser Thunderlance and to build a new D5W new heavy cruiser as the D5WD new drone bombardment cruiser Thundersword. A third D5WD new drone bombardment cruiser, Thunderaxe, was built later and served against the Andromedans, but it is unclear if it were actually built before the end of the General War. The Iron Deluge was converted from another damaged D5W. The D5WD new drone bombardment cruiser had better self-defense capabilities than the D6D drone cruiser it replaced; the General War was a very dangerous place by the time these ships served. The Klingon D5WDK has Aztek panels on the outer surfaces which represent efforts to reduce the electronic signature of the D5WDK and match it to the D5WD so the enemy could not tell the difference. Known names include Thunderlance, Thundersword, Thunderaxe, and Iron Deluge.
The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
