Product Description
The AIM-26A Falcon—also titled the “Nuclear Falcon,” and earlier given the designation GAR-11—was, as the name suggests, a larger version of the earlier AIM-4 Falcon, but with a 250-ton yield W54 nuclear warhead.
The only guided nuclear AAM to see US production, and was in service only from 1961-72. A conventionally-armed variant, the AIM-26B, was exported to Switzerland to arm Mirage II fighters, and was license produced in a modified form in Sweden as the Rb 27.
A fascinating bit of Cold War militaria—possibly also suitable for historical “What If?” builds, for use as a hypothetical nuclear-armed AAM produced by the real-life but abortive Swiss and Swedish nuclear programs.
