The SPAD 17 was the ultimate SPAD fighter. It was a development of the popular SPAD 13 designed for the new 300hp Hispano-Suiza 8Fb engine. The wings and fuselage were strengthened and the horizontal stabilizers had a rounded shape reminiscent of the SPAD 16 two-seater. In testing, the SPAD 17 was found to be marginally superior to the SPAD 13. A test batch of 20 SPAD 17's were built. In the last few months of the war, they were parceled out to the top pilots of
Les Cicognes (The Storks).
This product comes in 1:144 and 1:285/6mm/1:288 scales.
The 1:285 product contains two aeroplanes and detachable propeller disks rather than propeller blades. They are joined by disposable links to keep the price down, since single-part models are more affordable. You can break the links with nail clippers, wire cutters, or similar.
DESIGNER NOTE:
Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available. Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings. If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
