This model is based on the Particle Fountain from the TNG episode "The Quality of Life" (the one with the Exocomps). I have taken a few liberties with some details, so it's not exactly the same model. In the episode, this rather large space installation was part of a new mining method. The station used a particle beam to transport the mined material from the surface to the station. The size of the station is not stated in the episode, nor could i find any other reliable number. The only thing we can say for sure that it is taller than the Enterprise-D, based on a scene where the ship approaches the station. The filming model however does have some visible windows, and based on the assumption, that the ring below the upper dome, right above the tanks has about 5 decks in it (with window only on the 2nd and 4th deck) i come to an outer diameter of about 230m for this 3D model. This makes the station rather large for just the handful of scientists on board, who are developing the new method. Therefore, i assume that it also contains large processing facilities for the mined substances, as well as the living quarters for a full mining crew.
