Product Description
This is an HO scale model of the body of a PE 100-114 class car (Floor is a different material and is sold separately). As-is this model represents the modernized post-1940 configuration of the group with the exception of 107. 107 was modernized in the late 1930s with a futuristic aerodynamic skirt set and modern roof details, and she forever kept its unusual end skirts, roof details, and rub rail which this model doesn't posess. A model of the streamlined 107 is available in the WCTS Shapeways store. These cars also ran in Veracruz after retirement from the PE.
If you wish to have a pre-modernized version just remove the marker lights and fill in the holes where they were located. Also add a trombone whistle over the right-hand end windows if you're modeling one of the cars in configuration to operate in Riverside.
This car is made in kit form. Limitations of Shapeways' print process keep me from being able to print a one-piece model without rivet details blurring badly on the sides. Thankfully this one is super-easy to put together.
Warped parts can be gently straightend by running them under hot water before assembly.
The floor for this kit is separate and available here: https://www.shapeways.com/product/FBR3AFQSD/ho-pacific-electric-100-series-local-car-floor?optionId=64289629
The car is designed to use customtraxx part number 125130A, Which is their 4'10" wheelbase truck with 26" wheels.
Don't forget to add a pair of brass pole bushings, part number 12508, and a pair of trolley poles, part number HT-P4. Unfortunately he does not offer the correct slider shoe on that pole base, so either you can file the wheel into a slider shape or replace it with the slider castings, part number HT-C4.
To assemble:
1. Scrub this model thoroughly with simple green, hot water, and an electric toothbrush before assembly. Pay particular attention to getting any trapped wax out of the peg holes in the roof and out of the peg holes in the bottom corners of the ends. Use a small drill bit to check. Allow to dry.
2. At this point you can either paint and add glass to your model in pieces, which I find very easy, or assemble it unpainted. Painting first leaves minor seams in the corners where the letterboards of the ends and sides meet, otherwise no other visible seams show up if properly assembled.
3. Gently press the ends into the roof after carefully lining up the locator pegs. To do this, press on the back side of the pegs from inside the model to apply direct pressure without risk of breaking them.
4. Line up the pegs at the bottom corners of the sides with the corresponding holes in the ends and press them together very gently with a little twisting. As you get close to fully inserting them you'll also need to line up the pegs where the sides meet the roof. Do this for both sides.
5. Ensure everything is in alignment and use a toothpick to apply a small amount of superglue along the seams to ensure the parts stay together.
6. After all paint is dry, insert your brass 2mm trolley pole pivots which are available from custom traxx.
