Product Description
The Borak are six-limbed oxy-nitrogen breathers from a world similar to Earth, but with far less water. They were discovered by the Hydrans as their world was located in the Hydran Old Colonies. For nearly two decades, the Hydrans and Borak had a cordial relationship.  That changed after the Hydran homeworld fell to the Klingons and Lyrans and the Hydrans feared the Borak might join with their enemies. The Hydrans eliminated the Borak as a spacefaring power during the Early Years, though their fleet continued to evolve in Hydran simulators. During the General War, the Hydrans used the Borak in a game of deception, leaking data on their (non-existent) warships and presenting them as a powerful empire that wouldn’t appreciate having Hydrans and Lyrans intrude in their sphere of influence. The bluff worked because the Klingons and Lyrans didn’t figure it out until they were so heavily engaged against the Federation that they couldn’t spare the ships to conquer the Hydrans.

When the Borak Star League declared neutrality just after the start of the General War and seized the shipyard they had leased to the Hydrans, two incomplete Hydran cruisers were interned. Initially, the hulls were simply kept in storage, moved out of the building ways to make room for Borak Star League ship construction. Once the Hydran homeworld fell, it became clear that an invasion by the Lyrans, despite the Borak Star League’s proclaimed neutrality, was a real possibility. With the Lyran menace looming, and no hope of salvaging their relations with the Hydran Star Kingdom, a decision was made to complete the interned hulls in a Borak Star League configuration.

The Gunships were anachronisms in the Borak Star League fleet. With the firepower of contemporary Borak Star League dreadnoughts, they were often assigned to fleets led by command cruisers, as they lacked command facilities themselves. In the little combat the ships saw during the General War period, their slow speed and unconventional weapon arcs made them somewhat awkward in the hands of most Borak Star League commanders, although occasionally an inspired captain would find tactics to overcome their deficiencies. The ships were named Tyrant and Despot.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
